Attractions

  • Les Machines de l’Île de Nantes
  • In the former shipyards of Nantes, the incredible creativity of the French artists François Delaroizière and Pierre Orefice comes to life in a magical mechanical jungle! Here you can ride The Great Elephant, a 12 metre high and 45 tonne mechanical elephant that can carry up to 49 people at a time for a walk around the park!

Other attractions include the 25 m high Marine World Carousel, and the beautiful 45 m wide Heron Tree. To learn more about how these innovative machines are created, you can head on over to the Machine gallery, where the development of these attractions have been recorded. If you’d like to see what the team here are cooking up next, you can view them hard at work in the onsite workshop.

  • Château des Ducs de Bretagne
  • The Castle of the Dukes of Brittany on the right bank of the Loire is an important and frequently used symbol of Nantes. This stunning castle was the residence of the Dukes of Brittany between the 13th and 16th centuries before being taken over as a royal residence for the French monarchy.

Today the castle is open to the public, and offers visitors a chance to explore the moat gardens or walk along the castle ramparts! Across 32 rooms in the castle you will find the official Nantes History Museum. The museum covers the development of the city from the 17th century to present, with a special exhibition of the curator’s hopes for the future of Nantes.
