- Lobos Island:
2 kilometres north of Fuerteventura is the gorgeous Lobos Island, which can only be accessed by tourists via a ferry departing from Corralejo. This volcanic island was formed around 6000 to 8000 years ago, and was named Lobos Island (Wolves Island) for the large number of monk seals (sea wolves) that once lived there in droves.
Lobos was declared a Natural Reserve in 1982 for the unique variety of plants and sea birds that live there, including the rare Shearwater Cinderella. Lobos also features a small, sheltered lagoon known as Playa de la Concha, a sandy beach that’s perfect for sunbathing in peace.
- Corralejo Natural Park:
Perhaps no one area displays the contrasting environments of Fuerteventura, or any of the Canary Islands, better than the Corralejo Natural Park. In the north you will find the largest spread of sand dunes in the entire archipelago, which glorious white sands back onto the clear, turquoise water of the Atlantic Ocean. However, once you turn to the south of the park you will see a dramatic, volcanic landscape that looks more like Tatooine than anywhere on Earth.
- Acua Water Park:
As the only waterpark in Fuerteventura, the Acua Water Park is a very popular place for families and groups of friends to spend the sunny, summer days! The park presently has 14 attractions, including rapids, slides, a giant jacuzzi, and a wave pool. Parking outside of the park is free, as is the use of sunbeds and the park’s wifi. More information on handicapped access, lockers, photo services, and entrance fees, is available on the official Acua website.
