Beaches

Given their proximity to the resort centre, the beaches of Málaga are some of the most well-maintained in Spain! The Playa Malagueta and Playa Caleta are no more than 10 minutes away from the city centre, and yet have a surprising sense of peace and tranquility. Both are friendly friendly, with Playa Caleta also offering a wonderful range of watersports to take part in!

The wonderful thing about staying in Málaga is that you’re never far away from the top rated beaches further along the Costa del Sol! This includes:

  • Playa Burriana in Nerja
  • Playa Malapesquera in Benalmadena
  • Playa de Cabopino in Marbella

Attractions

  • Museo Picasso Málaga: Perhaps one of the best examples of community spirit in Málaga is the museum that was built to celebrate the city’s most famous former resident, Pablo Picasso. The museum, located only 200m from the Plaza de la Merced (Picasso’s birthplace), holds close to 300 drawings, engravings, ceramics, documents, and photographs which once belonged to the artist. These items were donated by Picasso’s family members so all why visit Málaga can get to know the mind of one of the most notable artists of the 20th century.

  • Museo Carmen Thyssen: The Museo Carmen Thyssen is one of the most popular museums in Málaga, with a wonderful collection of 19th century, Spanish art. This collection includes a number of notable works, including ‘Saint Marina’, Francisco de Zurbarán (1640-1650), ‘Leaving the Masked Ball’, Raimundo Madrazo (1885), and ‘Ladies in the Garden’, Cecilio Plá y Gallardo (1910).

  • Castle of Gibralfaro: Looming over the city of Málaga, on top of the mighty Mount Gibralfaro, is the stunning Castillo de Gibralfaro. This beautiful Moorish castle is a major draw for tourists in the area, and is easily one of the most recognisable landmarks of the city. The castle was built in 929 AD, and yet has been remarkably well preserved, with visitors able to climb the building’s ramparts and famous lookout tower for wonderful views of the bustling city and port below.
