Spanish Resorts

Flamenco

Holidays in Seville are remembered not only for the city’s scorching summer weather, but for its incredible culture. In this city flamenco was born, and soon became an integral part of Spain’s national identity.

Where better then to go on a night out in Seville than a flamenco show? Dancers are often accompanied by clapping from the audience, making for an interactive show, while the intense passion and emotion emanating from the performers will ensure an unforgettable night!

Every two years Seville holds a massive flamenco festival, the Bienal de Flamenco. Started in 1980, the festival welcomes dancers, guitarists, singers and fans from all over the world to celebrate the town’s dancing legacy! Exhibits and events are run alongside various performances, and provide a truly immersive experience.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites

While there’s plenty to do and see in Seville, a trip to the city’s Old Town is a must for any history lover, as the town has the honour of holding three UNESCO World Heritage Sites! These buildings were awarded this coveted status by the United Nations in recognition of their significant contribution to Spanish history and culture, or for their role in preserving it.

  • The Alcázar of Seville: Built in the 14th century and still in use today as the official residence in Seville for the Spanish Royal Family, the Alcázar of Seville is the oldest royal palace in Europe that is still in operation. In recent years it has grown in fame by featuring as a set in the 1962 blockbuster Lawrence of Arabia and in the fifth season of the show Game of Thrones.

  • Seville Cathedral: Officially known as the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, the Seville Cathedral has a remarkable record as the 3rd Largest Church Building in the World. Built between 1401 and 1528, the cathedral covers a whopping 11,520m², making it the World’s Largest Gothic Cathedral. Its belltower, La Giralda has become a landmark of the city, as at 343 ft tall you can hardly miss it! Today the church is well known for both its size and decor, and for being the burial site of Christopher Columbus.

  • General Archives of the Indies: Housed in a 16th century merchants’ exchange building in the heart of Seville’s Old Town, is the entire administrative record of the Spanish Empire; from the Conquistadors to the late 19th century. The treasures here in the Archivo General de Indias have been poured over by historians for centuries, and includes the actual journal of Christopher Columbus.
